About us
Throw to Fire is the ceramic studio of Bex and Stan – makers, teachers, designers and potters.
We started making pots in 2016 and were enthralled by the process of working with clay and the endless opportunities to create. Throw to Fire started in the spare room of our first floor flat and has since been up-graded to a self-built, garden studio. We are based in Brighton and like most Brightoneons we love the individuality and artist flair of the city. We are excited to announce that we will once again be opening our house and ceramic studio this May, for Artist Open Houses.
Our work is characterised by the use of stained clay to create our soft colour palette of greys, pinks, mauves and greens. We mix our coloured clays by hand, before throwing on the wheel. As the colour is incorporated throughout the ceramic form, we mostly apply a gloss transparent glaze to the internal surface while the outer surface is left unglazed to create a tactile finish.
Blending our love of contemporary aesthetics with an architectural edge, we create pieces that are simplistic in form with clean lines and purposeful details. From the first sip of morning coffee, to displaying freshly cut flowers from the garden, to enhancing your home’s ambience with aromatherapy, our mugs, vases, oil burners and other wares celebrate simple daily moments to be cherished.
