Balloon Vase, Damson and Chalk
This handmade damson ceramic Balloon Vase is a one-of-a-kind piece from the Maker’s Collection, a series of work exploring pattern, surface, and process.
Named for its rounded, balloon-like form and narrow base, this vase is wheel-thrown in damson stoneware clay before being carefully decorated using the Mishima technique.
Fine lines have been carved into the surface and inlaid with off-white clay, creating an intricate pattern that sits within the clay body rather than on top of it. This time-intensive process gives the vase subtle detail and depth while celebrating the handmade nature of the piece.
Finished with a clear glaze, this ceramic vase is fully watertight.
Perfect for displaying a small bunch of flowers or simply as a decorative ceramic object, this vase brings a sculptural presence to shelves, tables, and windowsills.

Rather than adding the colour through the traditional method of glazing, we instead work with coloured clays. All of our coloured clays are mixed by hand, ensuring that the colour is integrated throughout the entire ceramic form.
