This large, ceramic, Balloon Vase is a one-of-a-kind piece from the Maker’s Collection, a collection of work exploring pattern, surface, and process.
Wheel-thrown in pink stoneware clay, this vase has been carefully decorated using the Mishima technique.
Fine lines have been carved into the surface and inlaid with damson-coloured clay, creating an intricate pattern that sits within the clay body rather than on top of it. This time-intensive process gives the vase subtle detail and depth while celebrating the handmade nature of the piece.
Finished with a clear glaze, this ceramic vase is fully watertight.
Its generous size makes it ideal for displaying larger bunches of flowers while its sculptural form allows it to stand beautifully as a decorative object in its own right.

Rather than adding the colour through the traditional method of glazing, we instead work with coloured clays. All of our coloured clays are mixed by hand, ensuring that the colour is integrated throughout the entire ceramic form.
